Creative Gift Idea #4: Mixed Media Journal

I’m back with another idea on how you can bless a friend or loved one this holiday season (though the gift ideas work all year round). Have fun and enjoy the process of creating something from your heart not just purchasing a gift with your wallet.

A Mixed Media Journal is a fun way to create a memory for a friend that she or he will continue to add to. If you like this idea and want to to it next year, hit up the back to school sales for the composition books. You can get them for $.25 during the season and for $.10 after the season ends in the clearance section!

What You Will Need

  • Composition book
  • Scrapbooking stickers, embellishments
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Tape
  • Photos, quotes you like, journaling pages
  • You can use anything you find inspiration from here – the idea is to create a fun cover and then decorate a few pages within the journal to surprise your friend as they go through their year.

What You Will Do

You will decorate the front and a few pages within a composition book, and then they will fill it with their words and thoughts as they journal through their month. You can do one book or a year’s worth, depending upon your ideas.

This is a fun and inexpensive way to show you listen when friends talk about journaling or documenting their memories! Here are some of the ones I’ve done over the years for myself and others.

For this project, I like to diffuse Into the Future, Magnify Your Purpose, or Oola Friends and put on a nice WorshipMob mix to get me in the creative flow.

    1. That’s a real honor!! We love crafts and DIYs around here. Christmas is the time of year we get to do the most creating, but I’m planning to incorporate more year-round now that I’m maintaining this blog and really enjoying doing so! Thanks for stopping by!
